About this Tool

"What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important." Use this decision matrix to prioritize tasks by urgency and importance.

How to Use the Eisenhower Matrix

The Eisenhower Matrix (also known as the Urgent-Important Matrix) helps you decide on and prioritize tasks by urgency and importance, sorting out less urgent and important tasks which you should either delegate or not do at all.

1. Do First (Urgent & Important)

Tasks with clear deadlines and significant consequences if not completed immediately. Do these today.

2. Schedule (Not Urgent & Important)

Tasks with no set deadline but that bring you closer to your long-term goals. Schedule a time to do them.

3. Delegate (Urgent & Not Important)

Tasks that need to be done but don't require your specific skills. Delegate them if possible.

4. Don't Do (Not Urgent & Not Important)

Distractions and time-wasters. Avoid these or eliminate them entirely.

Why It Works

This method compels you to query the importance and urgency of tasks, helping you to distinguish between what is truly important (contributing to your mission) and what is merely urgent (demanding immediate attention).
